Cambodia Gambling Dens

There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the border from next door Thailand, in which casino wagering is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are situated in a generally small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent area, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, financing sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 1700, and although visas are allegedly needed to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is true of many border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau gambling den, highlights 150 one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machine games and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the common table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel building that features a number of comforts in addition to the gambling hall, which offers 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
